Africa Link update - June 2007

NEWS FROM OUR RECENT TRIP

Our Easter 2007 trip to Malawi was both enjoyable and a success. The whole family were able to make the trip with Nicola and I, and our good friend Matt was an invaluable support throughout.

Progress has been made in all the projects we have supported in the past. We are also delighted to be considering support to a new Orphan Care project and also to have made a commitment with 2 medical projects. For more details see project pages on Kindle Orphan Outreach, Kangaroo Care and {Jane’s project}.

You will also soon find updates on Yamikani, ICOCA and Keith Moller.

We are particularly pleased to have linked up with Andrew Barr and his family who are based in Salima and run the Kindle Orphan Outreach Programme. They share many of the thoughts expressed by Africa Link in respect to a holistic approach to development. We hope to be able to share more of their work in future news updates.

Finally Tim has taken the first steps to consider commercial activities in Africa. Whilst not within the objects of Africa Link and not a part of our fund raising efforts, we consider it vital to the long term development of Malawi to encourage investment into the country. Countries like Malawi need to develop growing economies which provide income for its people. The introduction of external capital together with well researched and executed business plans can give a significant lift to a great number of people. See further details of this venture in our section on commercial development.

We want to thank all those who prayed for us during our recent trip. Your prayers were answered faithfully. We also want to thank all those who have given to Africa Link so generously in the last few months. In particular efforts by Wendover Junior School which raised well over £1,400 a sum matched via a gift from St Mary’s wendover.

Thank you

Tim and Nicola de Borde
